Calpe
Local Information
Calpe was originally a small fortified fishing village, and you can still see remnants of early settlements today and located approximately an hour's drive from
The Old Town is well worth a visit with small narrow streets, museums, squares and many bars and restaurants, most of them with a lively terrace, making an ideal place to spend a summer evening.

There are two churches worth visiting in the centre of Calpe, the Senora de la Nieves and the Iglesia Antigua built in the 15th century.

Calpe is the home of the Peñon d’Ifach, and is situated a short drive up the coast from Altea. The Peñon is a magnificent rock which stands alone rising to a height of 332 metres above sea level. It is now a nature reserve and is home to many diverse groups of birds along with other unusual fauna and flora.

There are lovely sandy beaches to explore and offering a diverse range of water sports including scuba diving, sailing, fishing, windsurfing, paragliding and sailing.

The climate in Calpe is one of the mildest on the Costa Blanca due to its position surrounded by mountains which protect from the strong north winds.
